Inaugural Plastic Collection Drive Launched in Partnership with Zoomlion and NADMO

Off to a strong start in the second quarter of 2025, Kasapreko PLC launched a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in partnership with Zoomlion Foundation with support from NADMO. The campaign, dubbed the Plastic Collection Drive, focused on plastic waste collection in Accra to promote recycling and ultimately reduce the city’s disaster risks, all under the rallying slogan “Think Before You Throw.”

Herbal Farms and Research Limited, recognized as the site where Kasapreko’s first-ever product, the London Dry Gin was produced, served as the gathering point for the campaign. Owing to its significance in the company’s origin story, the location is regarded as a defining element of Kasapreko PLC’s identity as a business and brand. Among the notable guests was Hon. Teddy Safori Addi, Director General of Operations at NADMO, accompanied by his deputy. In his address, Hon. Addi emphasized NADMO’s evolving mission — shifting from disaster response to prevention. He highlighted that activities like the Plastic Collection Drive are vital to controlling flooding in Accra, noting that plastic waste is one of the primary culprits.

“Wastes generally decompose, but plastics don’t,” he noted. “They clog drains and create a perfect recipe for floods. That’s why disaster prevention authorities like NADMO, plastic manufacturers like Kasapreko, and sanitation leaders like Zoomlion must come together to promote cleanliness in our communities.”

Following his remarks, Thomas Korley of the Zoomlion Foundation addressed all participants, highlighting Zoomlion’s commitment to sustainability. He stated, “Zoomlion now takes a bold step to process plastic waste, recycling it into other usable products, and in return, pays anyone who makes the effort to bring in plastic waste.” He further spoke about the various logistics and tools provided for the exercise, including gator grabbers, gloves, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, tricycles, and trash bags, and demonstrated how to properly use them during the cleanup.

Equipped and ready, participants embarked on the exercise, navigating through the Nungua community, actively collecting plastic waste along the route. And concluding at Nungua Senior High School, where students warmly welcomed the team. They listened attentively to messages from Kasapreko’s HR Director and NADMO’s leadership on disaster prevention and environmental sustainability.

The highlight at the school was a creative showcase by the students, who displayed repurposed plastic waste projects, including tote bags, aprons, and other items crafted from used sachet water packaging. Their commitment to recycling and waste management was a powerful affirmation of the initiative’s impact.

As a company that values the health of its environment just as much as the communities it serves, Kasapreko PLC is dedicated to working together with institutions to drive meaningful change. This plastic collection drive marks the beginning, as more collaborative efforts will be organized soon to reinforce our shared vision for a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Ghana.
